1800s Farmhouse basement wine cellar

This started out as just a crawl space under a 18oo's farm house. We had a three man crew, picks and shovel's with five gallon buckets, little by little we excavated this entire 20 foot x 40 foot room by hand. Six weeks later the excavation was completed. I than drove my 4 wheel drive truck on the customer's several hundred acre property and hand selected every stone from the field stone walls on the farm. We brought all the field stone down into the basement cellar and I built up all the stone columns and arches. Then we brought in large pieces of Ohio State limestone and bush hammered each piece before laying them in the floor. We then installed Ohio State small rubble stone in between large lime stone coin corner's. Other walls I installed California stucco with random stone mixed in the wall sections. Custom Iron wine racks were built and installed, then we set hand hewn wood beams to support the ceiling boards. This wine cellar when completed held 3000 bottles and stayed a cool 60 degrees. The year was 1998 and this project is what launched my career of designing and building custom wine cellars.
